Tractionists
People who live in cities that rely on Municipal Darwinism. The very thought of living in the out-country sends a shiver down their spine, and the thought of living in a static settlement makes them want to keel over and vomit. They dislike ground that isn't moving with them, and are often brainwashed to hate Anti-Tractionists with a vengeance. Anti-Tractionists
People who live in static settlements or travel the out-country. They see Municipal Darwinsm as an inhumane dying trend. The most extreme are often agents of the Anti-Traction League, bent on the destruction of all cities on wheels. The least extreme are likely to be farmers who just want a peaceful way of life, thankful the League will give them that kind of haven.
Green Storm
Extremist airfleet of the Anti-Traction League led by a Stalker called Anna Fang. They will kill any Tractionist they can get their hands on, and will take down any City their Red Fox fighters are capable of destroying.
Pirates
Boats are an ancient technology, and these days pirates live on cities and airships. City Pirates ' make captives slaves in their engine-rooms. They don't waste food and space on people who are too weak to work' and kill them instead, as well as many other pirate misdeeds. Airship Pirates are barely any different. However, pirates are also the focus of many exciting adventure stories, and with amphibious and raft cities to choose from, there's little stopping them from swashbuckling like the pirates we all know. They are always Tractionists
Aviators
Travellers of the sky who 'fly the bird roads' and communicate in Aisperanto. They can be merchants, pirates, or anti-traction agents. Therefore their loyalties are often very divided and you can never predict how an encounter with an airship will turn out. There can be crews aboard an airship ranging from one to twenty and they come in all shapes and sizes. They can be either Tractionists or Anti-Tractionists
Stalkers
Also known as Resurrected Men, they are dead warriors dragged off battlefields and brought back to life with Old Tech Machines, their brains placed in a metal shell and all memories and emotions stripped from them. However, there are always lingering remnants of their former selves. They are formidable warriors and trackers with claws, infra red vision and heightened senses.
Here is a quote describing a Stalker:'It was seven feet tall, and beneath it's coat shone metal armour. The flesh of its long face was pale, glistening with a slug-like film of mucas, and here and there a blue-white jag of bone showed through the skin. Its mouth was a slot full of metal teeth. Its nose and the top of its head were covered by a long metal skull-piece with tubes and flexes trailing down like dreadlocks, their ends plugged into ports on its chest. Its round glass eyes gave it a startled look, as if it never got over the horrible surprise of what had happend to it.' They can be either Tractionists or Anti-Tractionists
Scavengers
People who live in the Out-Country or on tiny towns that go around scavenging for anything they can sell on for some worth. The best money is in Old Technology and much a scrap can go on between them over who gets the treasure. Whilst many may find these people repulsive and savage-like, they are generally as normal as anyone else. They can be Tractionists or Anti-Tractionists
Merchants
Traders of anything and everything. In many ways they are similar to scavengers, but more often than not buy something to sell on. There is a great market for slaves among Traction-Cities and many merchants will sell a human life at least once in their career. They can be Tractionists or Anti-Tractionists
Lost Boys
They are master thiefs (mostly boys), all kidnapped at a young age and trained by a mysterious man they all call Uncle. None of them are any older than their 20s. They are sent out in limpets to attach to the bottom of unsuspecting cities, using spider-like cameras and amazing skills, they steal everything they can. All forced to send message-fish (Old-tech torpedos) with reports back to Uncle, they live in fear of the tortures a Lost Boy recieves for going against orders. They live only by two rules 'Never get caught' and 'Uncle knows best' They are deceitful, untrustworthy and murderous. The believe everyone else, who they call Drys, to be stupid, which justifies stealing from them. They are mostly Tractionists
